Today I love playing the God of Good Fortune. I love random organization of the kind that is actually quite rigid and detailed, but I am only told random parts so as not to have me be confused with unnecessary details. I love that I have once again found my way through another Chinese year and am once again honored to stand in for the God of Prosperity, Wealth, and Good Fortune, the Cai Shen. I love that it is a big celebration in Chinese culture and that it is slowly becoming more and more popular here in my home town. I love that I am open to any celebration of luck and joy and so I participate in things that would be a surprise to my ancestors. I love that red and gold fancy dress is a lot like the plaids of my Celtic heritage so I never feel out of place when I’m dressed as the Cai Shen, I’m just loud and flashy, like always. I love that this celebration brings such joy to those whose culture brought it into being and I am thrilled that I get to play a small part in this. I love that I let on that it is a big imposition but that everyone knows I love anything where I get to perform and be a center of attention.
Today I love that the storm seems to have almost ended and we have open roads and sunshine, though some roads just a few miles away are still closed. I love that our street wasn’t plowed because that meant we could just roll out and head for the Farmers’ Market without getting stuck in the plowed bank that would have been across the end of our driveway. I love that we got our supplies and breakfast at the market and then got ourselves to Grey Roots Museum with no problems at all so that we could participate in the Chinese New Year Celebration.
Today I love dragons and I love that we have started thinking about how long it will be until our dragon boat is back in water. I love mooncakes. I love Market breakfast sandwiches. I love watching good classic shows and movies when the wind is howling and the snow is blowing. I love when I get to go out and travel undaunted in to the teeth of inclement weather and I love that I have always gotten where I was going so far. I love that that I am a Canadian and a citizen of this world of wonder.
Today I love drinking coffee at the museum while I get ready to bestow good fortune in the guise of the Cai Shen.
