Today I Love Longer Days

coffee and computer
Stocked up for a while …

Today I love longer days and I love that I noticed the day being longer yesterday which means I looked up from my work in order to go run an errand and it was after 6PM and there was still light out and I felt that old familiar thrill of coming out of Winter’s darkness. I love that daylight savings time starts in ten days. I love that though many people claim to hate DST many of them actually like the longer days. I love that the system is great except for the change that has to happen. I love that I’m pretty sure that we will eventually have a system where all the computer controlled clocks in the world will creep the time forward and backward a few minutes each day and there will be no sudden changes and then people will be all, “Did you know that four o’clock today isn’t the same as four o’clock was yesterday?” “What? That’s just crazy!” “I know, but it’s true. I read it on the internet so it must be.” I love when imaginary people have imaginary conversations in my head, that lets me know my imagination is still working. I also love it because I like to hear what they have to say, you never know when they might have a good idea I can steal and pass off as one of my own.

Today I love that it is Wednesday and I am once again in my Wednesday office on a quiet Wednesday morning. I love that the day is cold and frosty but not a deep freeze like it has been often over the last few weeks. I love that this is the time of year when I savor the clean freshness of the air and the ease I have when breathing it in. I love that I can go outside and walk for miles and still feel good, that it seems like there is so much more oxygen in cold air. I love that these are the good old days of winter when we know the warmer weather is coming soon and some of us can relax a bit and just enjoy the slow change in the tilt of the earth.

Today I love restocking my coffee bean supply. I love that there is still lemon poppy seed loaf left over and we’re eating it but slowly enough to make it last a bit. I love how good it goes with coffee. I love the smells of food being readied here at the Wednesday office. I love cheering on the winter. I love that when it ends, it is a sure sign that it will return. I love that Winter is the harbinger of Spring.

Today I love drinking coffee in my Wednesday office while I contemplate being stocked up on coffee for the remainder of the cold of Winter that is left for us to endure.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
