Today I love early morning walks in almost mild weather. I love that I don’t have to clean the car and truck off right away, though I do have to clean them off still, but I get to do it at my leisure. I love saying hi to the people out on our street, love talking to the crossing guard who was going to help us across the street, even though we weren’t going that way. I love talking about the weather with people who say, “Yeah, but we’re Canadians …” and that explains everything from why we’re out in the street in the middle of winter to why we swim in glacial lakes and bays. I love my home and the place it is located. I love that I feel energized even if I am still breathing poorly. I love that I get to make porridge with oranges in it today. I love being in this moment and still holding all the past moments in my heart and waiting anxiously to cherish all the future ones as well. I love that every minute yet to come could hold some wonderful surprise and some of them will. I love surprises and if you’re not expecting anything then even a small thing can be a surprise, so I don’t expect anything, but I keep my eyes open just the same … you never know.
Today I love that I have stuff to do, hooks to install, music to move, people to talk to, and words to write. I love that there may be some baking done today. I love that the laundry is on the go ’cause it’s Tuesday and Tuesday, among its many other virtues, is laundry day. I love the rumble of the washer as it goes about its serious business of coaxing clothes to be their best. I love that we dry half of our laundry on a rack. I love the honest deep humming of the dryer when we run it, quietly singing about how it hopes that the clothes it is caring for are happy and warm and feeling better after their chilly swim.
Today I love good books. I love figuring out how to make an old game work on a new computer. I love strawberry jam on warm buttered toast. I love Chinese checkers. I love big boats. I love old pictures. I love unusual nick-knacks that seem to hold places of honor that their existence and identity would seem to indicate they don’t deserve.
Today I love feeling the warm and searing energy of the coffee I am drinking as it trickles down my throat and charges up my mind and body with the power to grab this day and make it zing!
