Today I love the wildlife outside that leaves its subtle marks and traces round my home. I love the prints of rabbits so fresh in the snow that you can still see the outline of each padded foot and yet they are nowhere to be seen and the snow is falling steadily. I love that they are masters of hiding when they choose to be and yet have little fear of being seen when they choose to wander around the yard in daylight. I love that the neighborhood cats use the front porch as part of their path to get to some mysterious place that I cannot see the importance of, but then, I am not a cat. I love the sleek black squirrels that sit still on the fence posts and travel the highways of the wires and fence tops and random back road branches to get from nest to feeder and back again. I love how they sit calmly still to contemplate the day and its threats and bounty, survey all that they command and make their chattering proclamations before bounding back across the tightropes that are part of their aerial gymnastic routines to their leaf clustered throne rooms for another day of rest and respite in preparation for the coming spring.
Today I love that I get to record some music for my upcoming radio show and that I am excited because the singers I am recording are also excited about being on the radio. I love that they are a rather large group of children who are getting the chance to experience something that doesn’t happen every day for children and I love that I can be a part of that excitement. I love that the radio show is almost done and ready for air, and that I’ve had a lot of fun putting it together and pretending that it is a Christmas Concert event and that there have been problems getting the kids all ready to go on stage at the same time. I love that I’m pretty sure they’re going to have some explaining to do and I hope that they have fun with that.
Today I love making porridge. I love being busy. I love that all the laundry is washed and dried and might get folded today. I love the smell of a busy kitchen. I love that I get to turn on the tree lights every day and enjoy them. I love that our tree out front is still the best tree on the street when it lights up in the evening dusk. I love this time of year with all its amazing anticipation and excitement.
Today I love drinking coffee while I think about how much fun it would be to be a child at Christmas time again, and squirrels.
