Today I love happy people enjoying music on the radio. I love when the music I play is appreciated by the audience and I love when my playing music is appreciated by the musicians. I love hearing from people who are happy about the show. I love working to make the one hour I fill every four weeks fit in to the station I’ve listened to for over fifty years. I love that it is an AM station and that it seems to be more home town and grass roots because that’s the perfect fit for our show. I love that I am one of five people who do our show so that it is always something new and different because we all have so much autonomy in creating each episode. I love that this is the best group of people I could imagine being part of. I love that every one of them is a musician of high caliber and that intimacy with our industry gives us a unique perspective that is fun to share. I love that there is a wealth of episodes in the archives and even though only a few of them were done by me so far, I am proud to be one of the people who creates this content. I love that you can download these episodes at our Georgian Bay Roots soundcloud page.
Today I love that the new snow tires are soooo quiet compared to the old ones. I love driving in the rain, love the reassuring sound of the wipers as they clear our view of the road up ahead. I love the vast stands of Tamaracks as they shed their needles and prepare to join their leaf bearing deciduous cousins in a period of dormancy for the winter. I love their joyous rusted gold color, love their brilliant resilience as they prepare themselves to withstand temperatures down to well below minus sixty.
Today I love shredded wheat type cereals. I love heavy equipment that does heavy jobs. I love planning to make our cottage lot a garden of sanctuary. I love ideas that are so out there that they are almost silly, but still exciting and worth contemplating, like putting a third floor on the cottage. I love that I know I’m crazy, but it’s too much fun to want to change. I love leftover Halloween chocolate bars, wish I’d thought to bring some on the road today.
Today I love sipping coffee from my intrepid stainless steel travel mug while I pass by the tamarack troops getting ready for their winter billets.
