Today I love the sound of water rushing down the storm drain on the street out in front of the Tuesday office where I’m sitting right now even though it is Monday. I love that when things rearrange our schedule we just roll with it. I love that it is Canadian Thanksgiving Monday here and all the stores are closed. I love that the children are all off school and that it’s raining and the street is reasonably quiet except for families and children occasionally passing by under brightly colored umbrellas on their way to visit friends or just out for a walk. I love that thunder has rumbled in the distance a couple of times and while it was too far away to shake anything here, it made me wish for a good big rumble of it right here in our neighborhood so I guess it shook my heart a little after all. I love that we’ll be on the road in a little while and that I love driving through steady rain. I love remembering as a child how absolutely perfect windshield wipers were and that whoever invented them should be absolutely, positively, and justifiably pleased with themself. I love that when we get to where we are going there will be people and food and laughter and some tension in certain meetings and family and in-laws and politics and relationships and we call this Thanksgiving and we are thankful, because without this we would be alone.
Today I love that the Dock pieces got stacked yesterday and some fire wood got re-stacked and some plans got made. I love that I suddenly realized that the kayaks would most likely fit perfectly in the crawlspace under the south half of the cottage and that said crawl space is accessed from the indoors and is really part of the basement, it’s just too short to spend time in so it’s storage area and have I got the thing to store in it … yep, kayaks! Ha!
Today I love garlic and chicken broth and happy people who cook and so even though I’m not that fond of kale I’m expecting that I might well like the food dish that’s being cooked in our kitchen right now, ’cause two out of three ingredients are favorites of mine. I love that I chopped the garlic myself and every time I take a drink of my coffee I am reminded of that because I can still smell the garlic oil on my fingers.
Today I love drinking coffee while thinking about in-laws. In-laws, eh? Can’t live with them and … pass the kale. 😉
