Today I Love Magic Tricks

banana bread in jars
Part of Autumn’s magic?

Today I love magic tricks, like when Autumn blows across the land and turns the leaves into a magic rainbow of her own colors, or when Breeze takes the fallen ones that seem lifeless and inert and levitates them in a whirling spiral outside my front door. I love when it is raining and bordering on snow and then suddenly the sun is winking at me from under the western edge of the afternoon clouds, good old Sol. I love when I’m walking out of a building thinking it is just the beginning of evening and I look up to see the clouds part and reveal a perfect crescent moon in a black night sky. I love how the sky can paint itself with wisps of cloud and make a picture that looks like nothing in particular and yet there is a definite mood about it that is as obvious and real as any solid thing on ground. I love when the trees rage at night and tell ghost stories to each other about what has come before on the wind and what will surely come again. I love the wonderful, terrible, powerful show that is Autumns annual review of all the talents of all her friends.

Today I love that yesterday I made banana bread in half pint sealer jars and they turned out perfect. I love that there are four of them in the fridge and eight more in the freezer, and I love the new freezer because not only are we using it to help us make future food plans, but now I can find things we use frequently in the freezer of the fridge ’cause the stuff we use for long range meal planning is in the big new freezer which isn’t actually that big, but is gigantic to us.

Today I love that curling seems to have taken over our household and that is damned fine by me ’cause I really do enjoy playing the game. I love that our shoes and brooms are stacked up by the front door like we were a family of witches from the Wizard of Oz or something. I love that we can walk to the club and I love how that reminds me of when I was a kid and could walk to the arena in my little village. I love that I’m half looking for curling shirts that say funny things about curling.

Today I love drinking coffee and thinking about how good a jar of banana bread would be with that cuppa java.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
