Today I love the race we engage in every day, the race to get things done, the race to get here or there, the race to grow up, and the race to find love. I love that I am racing to an appointment this morning and then we’ll be racing around to take care of things we want done before our work week starts tomorrow. I love that we take Monday off, even though it means we work longer over the next four days. I love that my driver this morning has things under control and I feel safe and assured that I’ll get to my appointment on time and in good condition. I love that everything seems to fit together in the schedule when everyone is trying to make everything happen. I love writing on the road, love how different the view of life is here in the passenger seat as we drift seemingly carelessly past lakes and fields and bluffs and pastures and little one room schools that are now houses and churches’ brave little steeples and belfries that still mark the centers of old, happy communities. I love this drive through the land where I grew up.
Today I love that we managed to get out kayaking and umiaking yesterday and then we made an effort to tip our kayaks and attempt to get back in unassisted. It’s going to take some work for me to be able to succeed consistently at that, but it is clearly a doable thing in warm water. I love that we have determined that once the water is cold we’ll be staying close to shore, ’cause I love kayaking and want to still be around to do it again next year.
Today I love breakfast on the second story deck in the shade of the majestic trees that surround us at the cottage. I love that summer is not yet over, despite the whining about autumn I’ve been hearing and even the grumbling about winter. I love that I do not suffer winter willingly before its time as I have too much love for the other seasons to paint them with such sorry, maudlin simperings. I love that when winter arrives I will love it for all it and I are worth. I love that my love of all seasons comes from my thankfulness for life. I love that, although this summer was rushed because of things happening that demanded attention and time, it has still been a wonderful summer thus far and promises to continue until its last day.
Today I love drinking coffee before hitting the road to view the vistas of the trail from country back to town.
