Today I Love The Chances We Take

Today I love the chances we take to make our lives better, fuller, richer. I love that even though they don’t always work out, the taking of the chance is in itself an adventure that strengthens us and enriches our lives. I love that downfall often shows us far more keenly the things we love in ways that success and acquisition never could. I love that the taking of a chance, even if it doesn’t work out, fills life up more richly than waiting for the tapestry of life to unfold around you. I love that I have never liked the adage, “All things come to those who wait.” because to my mind it is the thing that sets people up for disenchantment with life and the worst of it is that that very disenchantment will come when it is too late to seize the day. I love that my advice to one and all is to seize this very day and the next one as well, and see if you don’t find that wringing every scrap of love from twenty-four or forty-eight hours isn’t the best thing you can do for yourself.  I love love and all the things it does in this world. I love that at the root of every good thing that happens and many of the disappointments as well, is love. I love that love is the reason we disappoint ourselves and will continue to do so, all for the chance of love.

Today I love this dull grey morning. I love the shifting mood of the bay. I love the softness of the bottoms of the puffed cotton clouds that have clearly scraped along the earth and now have dark stains that may wash out if they choose to cry down on us. I love being in the middle of a quiet Monday morning and knowing that there is nothing that needs my attention that I cannot handle on this shady day.

Today I love that there is a serious consideration in the upper levels of governance here at the cottage to consider holding a meeting to discuss the potential of scheduling a time to determine when to turn on the heat, but thus far it’s only a consideration spurred on by cool, yet not cold, feet. I love slippers with bead work on them given as a gift by my mother many years ago.

Today I love coffee in the recliner with my slippers on.

Today I Love The Chances We Take

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
