Today I Love Soft Rainy Roads

There’s a seat waiting for anyone at the Wednesday office

Today I love soft rainy roads and their gentle embrace of my senses as I drive familiar paths to familiar places in a grey, soft cloud of comfortable contentment. I love this time of year as the trees become seasoned with the fiery colors of autumn. I love when it is wet and yet still warm, when you can feel the cool edge of the changing seasons lurking in the offing but can ignore it in the still comfortable days that Autumn borrowed from Summer as she was leaving with the plan of sprinkling them into the first few days of fall on her mind. I love that I’ve gotten a good start on my next radio show and there might be a good chunk more of it gets written right here in the Wednesday office this afternoon. I love the hissing of cars cruising by on a wet main street outside the office window here, love the joy of rain and the sweetness of cleaned air. I love how many people there are in my life that are so vastly different from me and how they make my life seem much richer than it could ever be if I were alone or surrounded by people who were just like me. I love that I am doing so many things I never thought I would be doing.

Today I love that we ran into Tommy Gilham on the weekend and he gifted me a CD of his work and some of that stuff is going on the radio show. I love that my friend Sally saw a video of our dragon boat from last week and asked about it and we got to take her out on the water in the dragon boat with us last night. I love that we paddled the boat all the way up the river and back last night before pulling it up onto the trailer and up on dry land. I love that we got it turned over and strapped down safely and it is snug and safe at home for now and will be going to its winter berth on the weekend.

Today I love that curling will be starting soon, ’cause I don’t want there to be to much time between dragon boating and curling, I’d get bored. I love oatmeal with strawberries, peaches, and mangoes in it. I love all the things that bloom in autumn. I love that this day feels confident and determined and I think I’ll just rely on it to get me through.

Today I love drinking coffee in the Wednesday office while this confident day settles softly yet determinedly down on us.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
