Today I love the hustle of preparation. I love that so many things are coming up that need to be prepared for. I love that friends are staying at our cottage this weekend while we start getting ready to help make Summerfolk happen. I love that today is my radio show deadline and it’s so close to being done that I can taste it. I love that I have two blog posts to do today and an open mic to run. I love that this is the last open mic for two weeks because every year we take the Friday of Summerfolk off. I love that in the middle of our preparations for having people use our cottage this weekend we suddenly decided to quickly get changed and throw ourselves into the water. I love how warm and wonderful the water has been these last two weeks, not warm by most peoples standards, but warm by my standards because I’ve lived on this bay for 55 years now. I love how easy it is to settle in to being at the cottage when we come here. I love that we get to come back here all the time, day and night, winter, summer, spring, and autumn. I love how sweet it smells and tastes and feels to be right here in this moment on the edge of this beautiful bay.
Today I love that I have plans to make a pergola on the bayside deck and that, if everything works out right, the pergola will double as a stage area that can be covered with a tarp if need be. I love that we have an intimate, friendly concert scheduled for the weekend after Summerfolk and I’m hoping to get the pergola frame up by then, and if I’m lucky, the shade rafters will be in place by then as well. I love that the plans for that are rolling around in my head.
Today I love doughnuts for breakfast. I love that my diet is very varied and that it goes from extremely healthy to wildly indulgent and then back again. I love that I have this theory that this type of diet is actually the healthiest because it makes my digestive system work out and exercise some of the time and lets it rest at other times. Seems like a good plan to me anyway. I love that I can equate cake and oatmeal and see them as similar enough to call either one breakfast. I love that last night’s sunset was perfect.
Today I love drinking coffee and typing at the cottage while I plan all the other things that need to be done.
