Today I Love That My Truck Is Home

truck, laundry, computer, shawna caspi poster, lawn mower
All the things … and coffee

Today I love that my truck is home. I love how trucks that belong to me always give so much of themselves at Summerfolk construction that they break down sometime during that two week period. I love that this one actually managed to finish up what it needed to do after the breakdown and before it was fixed. I love that the break was repairable, even if it was more expensive than a four hundred dollar suit. I love that I would never buy a four hundred dollar suit unless it was in a thrift store and someone else had already gotten $390 worth of wear out of it and it still looked okay. I love that my suit is an Italian, hand made wool suit that I got at a thrift store for seven dollars over ten years ago. I love that it cost more to have it altered than it cost to buy it. I love that I’ve gotten $390 worth of wear out of it. I love that I’ve often been dressed up in a suit that cost less than the tie I was wearing at the time. I love how talking about my truck breaking down reminds me of how frugal I can be and makes me feel better about the fact that I can afford to keep my truck running and buy the odd toy because I am … shall we say, a little cheap? Yes.

Today I love that Shawna Caspi will soon be on her way to this town to engage in musical shenanigans of the best kind. I love that she will be playing a live show at the cottage and also recording an episode of Our Community Stage because she plays shows in our area, though not often enough for her fans. I love that I will also be interviewing her for an upcoming episode of Georgian Bay Roots because, yes, she has played Summerfolk in the past. I love that there will be a collection of old friends and new at the show. I love that I get to be the host and the opening act, because I enjoyed being the MC for Shawna the first time I heard her play, and because playing as the opener myself is a frugal way to fill out the show (see references to cheap above).

Today I love strawberries in the oatmeal. I love the smell of fresh cut lawn which is a really good thing because the lawn has to be cut today. I love clean laundry, even if it hasn’t been folded yet. I love that there are all the things to do to get ready for tomorrow night’s show and I’m pretty sure I’m going to forget some of them but I will make sure that the really important ones get done.

Today I love grabbing quick gulps of coffee while I do all the things to get ready for the next couple of days.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
