Today I love coffee with the cottage cardinals as they whistle and chuckle and cluck and pop in the trees in the light early morning breeze. I love waking up to the easy sounds of an area of the world with little traffic. I love that we find the occasional golf ball in our driveway from the course across the road and that those golf balls are great for playing fetch in the bay with the kids who can dive. I love that I have reached the point in the summer where I simply throw myself off the end of the dock now and that’s how we get into the water when it’s time to swim. I love how warm the water is some days, and I love that it is perfect for leaching all the heat out of my body when the “feels like” temperature of the day gets into the eighties and nineties and closes in on triple digits. I love fluffy clouds drifting by on the top of the not too distant northern horizon.I love that we paddled over a mile up the shoreline today just to get us warmed up for the day, stopped out on the bay and ate peaches and cookies and bananas, and then paddled back home again. I love that we are really enjoying the new kayaks.
Today I love that I have reached the point in my life when it doesn’t matter if it rains or snows or the sun is shinning, all my days are perfect days. I love that the last of the toy flags that were all over the cottage property and shredding because they were cheaply made have been located and taken down and now a good sized, good quality crimson leaf is hanging from the edge of our upper floor deck on a decent pole. I love that flag and I love my country.
Today I love writing on the back deck in the peace and quiet. I love that it is so quiet we can hear hummingbirds every time one shows up to feed or fight with the other hummingbirds over possession of the feeder. I love that there are so many birds here at the cottage, from wrens and finches and robins and cardinals and jays and crows and ravens to swans and ducks and geese and gulls. I love that it feels like we’re living in the air when we’re up on the deck.
Today I love drinking coffee on the water in my kayak and on the deck and in bed and even in places as mundane as my recliner in the living room.
