Today I love cakes and pies and making them from scratch. I love that the cakes I made yesterday turned out very well. I love that I have every expectation that today’s pies will be equally acceptable. I love that there is cake batter on my keyboard from my being interrupted during the baking yesterday by online messages. I love that the birthday party last night was a great success because the birthday girl had a great time with her friends. I love that the restaurant we went to was happy to host the thing and that so many of our friends had been wanting to go there and that we were able to give them a reason to go. I love that I have had to dust off my binary math skills because we’ve decided to only have “oh” shaped candles representing zeros and normal birthday candles representing ones so that we’ll likely never need more than seven candles on a cake and certainly not more than eight … and we’d only need eight if one of us gets really lucky at this living thing. I love that part of the fun last night was getting the nerds to convert the candles to figure out the age of the celebrant. I love that she’ll be a six candle birthday celebrator for another twenty five years, it’s the frugality of my nature. 😉
Today I love that it is Friday and that it is the first Friday of August and that the main street down town will be closed to car traffic and they’ll be doing the “Fifties First Friday” thing and there will be a classic car show and all the shops will be open down there. I love that I’ll be doing the open mic at the Bleeding Carrot until six and then we’ll be wandering around checking out the stuff that’s going on, the deals to be had, the fun things to see and do. I love that it gets to be more like a street fair every time it happens.
Today I love diced up fresh peaches in my breakfast cereal. I love the rumbling and rattling of my street putting out its garbage and recycling and knowing that I took care of all mine earlier in the week. I love that when one of your jobs is taking truckloads of stuff to the dump for people you get to sneak your own garbage in when a load is under weight and it doesn’t cost anyone anything to tip it.I love when potentially nasty jobs have good perks.
Today I love drinking coffee and lounging with intent in my front porch office while I think about being on holidays at the cottage soon.
