Today I love the music of good friends in my CD player. I love when that happens, love that I feel each new success that friends have as a part of my life. I love that sometimes it takes me a while to get my hands on that music, because it is always worth waiting for. I love that the music that is made by friends is always saying something, and even if the message wasn’t meant for me, it was written with the knowledge that anyone might hear it and so I love feeling welcome to listen and trying to hear and understand what they were saying. I love that as I write this I’m listening to my friends Dave and Misha on the CD they gave me today. I love that the “CD case” is a brown paper bag with a hand carved print decoration for art work. I love that, knowing these two young men, this is the perfect CD jewel case and says exactly what they are about even before you plug the CD into your player. I love that the CD content is surprising in an expected way, which is to say it’s great, but I knew it would be.
Today I love my usual Saturday morning breakfast at the market surrounded by and running into all the people who go there, many of whom I know from all around my home and the surrounding environs. I love that it is a big part of my life to make it to the market every Saturday. I love my market grocery stop for certain things. I love that it’s my calendar based on the weather we travel through to get there and what is available seasonally. I love that I have met many musicians there and I think there might be something that draws us songwriters to it.
Today I love Syrian food from the market. I love the green that surrounds me everywhere at this time of the year and I love that I remind myself of that because when it goes away in autumn I wish not to lament that I didn’t appreciate it when it was here. I love the resilience of so many plants, struggling along in this drought. I love that there is a song on the CD I’m listening to called Drought Disaster and that everything in the world seems to be connected even if it is just with the thinest of threads.
Today I love drinking coffee and letting the caffeine wind my brain up and get it going for the day as I ponder the beauty of the green of my summer.
