Today I Love The Monarch Butterflies

Monarch visits

Today I love the Monarch butterflies and that they have found the milkweed out back by the deck. I love the way they tease us by lighting there and hanging out and then disappearing and then coming back again (or maybe it’s another one coming along?) before we can go look to see if there are any eggs there. I love that there is a goodly amount of milkweed in the wilder parts of our area here in Bluewater country and that people have taken to growing the stuff in their flower beds. I love the smell of the milkweed flowers, so strong and rich and almost overpowering when you get a whiff of it on a gentle breeze. I love the way it grows in places along the rail trail near where I used to live, and how it made walks there in July and August so sweet. I love the photos I took there of milkweed in winter back lit by an afternoon sunset, though I’m damned if I can find them. I love that I am still alive and moving forward and as long as that is the case there could be opportunities to replace photos I remember taking that have been misplaced, and maybe to make them better than they were.

Today I love that it is Tuesday and that means Dragon Boating tonight. I love that we have a race coming up on the weekend, though it is many miles from here and race day starts early and that means being on the road long before I want to have to get up, but that’s the price you pay to be on the water. I love that I am willing to pay the price. I love that tonight will be good practice for this weekend. I love how good it feels to be in a boat with twenty one other people all intent on doing the same thing, getting from A to B in as straight a line as possible and before anyone else gets there.

Today I love the fun weekend we had. I love celebrating my country’s birthday and I love that it happens in two of the three main countries that make up North America right at this time of year. How cool its that? I love that there were a great deal of fireworks on the weekend past. I love that, while I love fireworks, I still find nature’s light shows to far exceed any light shows that humanity can engineer, so bring on the lightning and the sunrises and sunsets.

Today I love drinking coffee in my Tuesday office on the front verandah while the Monarchs visit the milkweeds out back.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
