Today I Love Small Towns

small town
Let’s ride bikes down main street …

Today I love small towns like the one I live in and the one where my Wednesday office is. I love that small towns can be found in the hearts of big cities; your neighborhood is a small town surrounded by either rural or urban frontier. I love the feeling of a small town on a sunny summer morning when it feels like it should be summer holidays for everyone. I love feeling like we should be anxiously waiting for the walk to the corner store for ice cream cones and ice cold sodas. I love that I want to go swimming in the bay every danged day. I love finding insects that I’ve never seen before, even at my age, and admiring their totally alien look. I love that I will get to install a new ceiling fan in the bedroom soon. I love that I have to laugh at how funny I probably looked when I was trying to defeat a moth that was flying crazily around the room last night, even though my attempts lead to the destruction of the ceiling fan.  I love that although ceiling fan shopping is not something I enjoy, once it’s done, it’s done.

Today I love that we’re going to an open mic that I am not hosting, and tomorrow night we’re going to an open mic that I’m not hosting, and Friday afternoon we’re going to an open mic that I am hosting, ’cause I love open mics and people who perform because they want to and love to. I love that tonight’s open mic will be polished and tomorrow’s will be classical and Friday’s will be the usual fun collection of peeps who just find the experience to be too much fun. I love that every one of the hosts of the radio show I am part of now have played my Friday open mic, that’s kind of cool.

Today I love that we had a full boat last night on the river and the dragon boat really moves when it’s full. I love being on the water with people who enjoy the workout or the scenery or the socializing or any combination of those things. I love that the team decal for the other side of my truck cap has arrived and I’m going to put that on soon. I love the work my friend Jed Phillips does, his signs are always so professionally done.

Today I love drinking coffee in my Wednesday office while I dream of going for ice cream with a gang of other children as a treat for behaving myself.

Today I Love Small Towns

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
