Today I Love My Musical Life

front porch, feet up, coffee
It’s a coffee thing

Today I love my musical life and all the different directions it has gone lately. I love hosting shows on public media. I love hosting open mics. I love attending other peoples open mics. I love hearing people play their own original music at open mics. I love hearing covers that people put their own hearts into. I really love hearing one of my own songs being covered by someone I care about, thanks Kailey, that was wonderful. I love that I get to listen to all kinds of music and call that work, that is how rich my life has become. I love that I live my life loud and big and bold these days and that’s just perfect because I’m loud and big and bold inside my head, and letting that out is very relaxing for me. I love making my way in this world in the direction I always thought I could go but didn’t start on until it was almost too late. I love that the most important people from my life before encouraged me to do these things and I’m only sad that they cannot share these things with me now. I love the ghosts that haunt me with their positive energies, that keep me moving forward.

Today I love that tonight I’m going to try recording some music at a show with permission. I love that the talent in this town attracts even more talent to the area. I love that we have a thing called Orchestra North happening right hereĀ  and that we have the talent and support to run such a venture each year. I love that the daughter of a friend of mine has been included in the pool of musicians attending Orchestra North this year. I love that tonight’s open mic is part of that program. I love how much this town believes in music and art.

Today I love housecleaning. Okay, I love that I can say that with a straight face because I love when the house is improved by my efforts. I love that the garage is getting more organized and that with a little luck and a lot more work the car will fit inside it again before winter comes. I love that there are days when it seems like we will never get everything shifted to where it all needs to be, but those days are not frequent and even when they occur I just say, “Of course we won’t, but we’re going to get close to having everything sorted a whole lot of times.”

Today I love barefoot, front porch coffee drinking while I write emails and blog posts and get myself ready for my day.

Today I Love My Musical Life

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
