Today I love having a day off. I don’t have a day off, but it feels like a day off in some ways so I’m going with that. I love when days at work feel particularly positive and it feels like the day before summer holidays or something like it. I love the sounds of boat’s horns as they work in the harbor just over the ridge maybe a mile from here. I love how those lonesome horns sound, like goodbye and hello and work is hard and the lake is dangerous but I’ll be back if I can as soon as I can. I love the brave old ships that head out. I love that we remember that more have left than have returned. I love that today is the last day of sweltering heat for a little while for us here in Southwestern Ontario. I love that tomorrow there is supposed to be a little more of the much needed rain we’ve been hoping for and haven’t seen for days now. I love how things swing from good to bad and back again. I love that I’ve been conscious of needing to drink more water lately because, although I drink enough normally, in this heat I need more than I normally drink, so … yay!
Today I love that last evening I gave blood again and I pumped out the required pint in under six minutes. Who says high blood pressure doesn’t have its benefits, eh? I love that it seems like just a week ago that I gave blood, though I know it has been two months. I love that after we gave blood we went out to Oregano Bistro for a late dinner and ran into friends there.I love that we stayed late there and talked for way too long and were feeling good and tired when we got home, so we were ready for bed.
Today I love freshly made oatmeal with fresh strawberries in it. I love how overwhelmingly sweet smelling the milkweed blooms are. I love that the markings on the cat across the street makes it look like he’s wearing a dark jacket and white pants when he walks away from you. I love that he has no interest in the street or people on it, but that the swath of meadow grass will call him to its edge and keep him crouched there forever as he watches the life going on in that two foot high city of weeds and bushes and wildlife.
Today I love drinking coffee and having a work day that feels like a day off.
