Today I love words sticking together in my mind like rice in a bowl and coming out into my conscious in strings and phrases, lines and couplets, rhymes and verses. I love when my mind has something it wants to get out but it needs it to be poetic and harmonious and I don’t get to hear it all, just bits and pieces, until it is suddenly there on a scrap of paper or on my digital recorder. I love that today my mind is saying it wants to tell a story, not a true one, but one based on true events as they might have happened in a world where timing is sometimes perfect. I love that my mind can do that well enough to please me and sometimes others appreciate it as well. I love words and the way they let me tell what I’m thinking and feeling. I love the way they sometimes behave and sometimes get unruly, and when the latter happens I love how sometimes the unruly phrase is the one I really wanted to use all along. I love all the words, but the accidental ones that bring new thoughts and shed new light are always my favorites.
Today I love that it is Friday again. I love that even though it’s cool out, it is the first full day of summer in the northern hemisphere. I love that there is supposed to be rain for the next two days and we need that desperately. I love rainy days, love how the earth drinks so deeply when it is parched, love how it makes me think of cool glasses of water on hot summer days in the hay fields of my youth when work was hard and long but so rewarding. I love that, having grown up on a farm, I accept all weather and every twist of meteorological fate that comes my way and look hard for the good in it all.
Today I love recording things for radio and television. I love working on websites when they are up and running. I love that the Detroit Data Center is back online … mostly. I love that I am part of a little sliver of the scattered fragments of what some people see and hear throughout their lives. I love that my friends, Dave and Misha will be in the TV studio today for a chat with me and then they’ll play some music.
Today I love drinking coffee on the front porch while I write even though it’s cooler out here than it was on the patio at the restaurant last night and I got a chill there, but I’m keeping warm here now. It’s all in the attitude, and the Mr. Rogers cardigan.
