Today I love tech and all the things it can do. I love that I can make a recording in my office in ways that I had never dreamed of being able to do even ten years ago. I love that there are toys in my gear bins that I can put together in new ways. I love that I can discover easy tricks to do things I thought were well beyond my abilities. I love that my computer now plays a huge part in the music I record and that I’ve started thinking that it might be time to make that album after all. I love that I am now wondering what to put on the aforementioned album, ’cause I have a lot of music. I love that I’m toying with silly album titles, “A Latte Love” comes to mind, as does “Espresso yourself” and “Sugar On The Side.” I love that all these will only work if the album is recorded by my band, “Hot Black Coffee.” I love that as soon as I start thinking about album names the puns just start up in my head and I can’t hold them back, “Automatic Drip”, “The Places I’ve Bean”, “Life Is A Fine Grind”, how do I turn this off?
Today I love the flowers that keep coming everywhere. I love the Irises out front, the Columbine by the verandah, the Bleeding Heart in the back yard. I even love the Yarrow that’s getting ready to show its head, though I confess I’m not a fan of its dusty, medicinal smell. I love the warm sunshine and the cool morning air that makes that sun so welcome at this time of the day. I love sitting outside, writing and working while the wind tickles my nostrils with the smells of earth and growth and blossom and expiry. I love the endless circle of life and I love that my circle is big enough that I get to see other things go through their circles a few times.
Today I love the discordant harmonies of the birds in my hood. I love the rhythm section of the neighbors dog barking to punctuate each stanza and couplet, and the susurrous background of the leaves in the breeze. I love the symphony of spring in my front yard. I love that it is in surround sound with perfumed air and perfect lighting.
Today I love drinking coffee on the front verandah as the show keeps playing while I write.
