Today I Love Endless Lists

My back feels better just looking at this …

Today I love endless lists of things to do because that means I’m needed for as long as I’m here for. I love pain that reminds me of the things I’ve done and how fun they are. I love that my back is a bit sore this morning from paddling last night with a sister dragon boat team from our own club. I love that I’m booked to steer a race in Hamilton in less than two weeks and that will complete my accreditation as a Dragon Boat Steerer. I love being on the water. I love how good it feels to be on the steering oar of a dragon boat. I love gauging the way each different boat responds, finding its pivot, learning how it heels and how it responds, learning what it will do in a wake, in chop, in a current. I love how dedicated some of the paddlers can be and how much fun they all have. I love that during a training exercise last night there was a bit of a water fight spat and a couple of paddlers got wetter than they were supposed to. I love that I eventually dried off. I love that the other paddler wasn’t angry at me for long, even though she was just as soaked as I was.

Today I love random funny posts on the Facebook that make me laugh or smile quietly. I love messages from people that tell me random little things because the message isn’t about some cat meme or other, it’s that they were thinking about me when they thought, “Who should I send this to?” I love that I think of others the same way and occasionally deem some thing to be worthy of interrupting someone’s day with. I love that I’ve been working hard at writing lately and though it’s all been on different projects I’m keeping myself in shape and keeping up my training and practice.

Today I love spontaneously diced mango added to my oatmeal. I love finding good music made by friends and getting to listen to it. I really love when there is a message in the music or lyrics that speaks to me like it was hidden there just for me to find. I love spending time with friends doing random things like dragon boating or golfing or making music or going out for food and drink. I love that the food and drink thing is really just a justification to be with friends.

Today I love drinking coffee in my recliner and resting up my achy old back before heading out in another dragon boat tonight.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
