Today I Love This Little Boat

Dragon in the hood …

Today I love this little boat, all business and speed, room for twenty-two people and little else, perfect for its purpose, nothing wasted, everything that’s needed to get a team of dragon boaters from the start to the finish or just up and down the harbor for camaraderie and exercise. I love looking forward to putting our boat into the bay and getting back out on the water again. I love that there are people wanting to come out with us to see what it’s like. I love that our club is happy to take people out a couple of times because we find the ones that cannot turn away from the water once they’ve had a chance to realize they belong there. I love when the water is rushing by and suddenly everyone in the boat is thinking and feeling and doing the same thing in unison, reach, plunge, pull, sit up, reach again. I love the feel of a dragon boat when its crew is pulling in unison and they know it. I love that there are only ten days ’til the boat goes in. I love the feeling that that little boat is getting excited dreaming in the driveway of getting taken to the water where it belongs

Today I love that last night the rock stars of the Rock The Sound Choir shock the rafters and rattled the chairs of the Shallow Lake Community Church where we showed up and put on our big season ending show last night. I love that I knew all of the words of all the songs, and even which songs many of those words belonged in. I love that my peeps can carry me and some of them even know when I’m going to need guidance and they’ll catch my eye and prompt me. I love that my moto is Wrong and Strong and while it makes people laugh, it has served me well.

Today I love being on the road early in the morning. I love that we’re on our way to Lake Ontario to take a dragon boat coaching course. I love that the water always seems to call to me and I must always answer, “Yes!” I love that I will get on almost any boat that’s heading out from shore. I love that when the water sings, I always listen, the sweetest songs are heard with the heart.

Today I love drinking coffee on the road while our little boat waits quietly at home.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
