Today I Love The Summer Rain

Sun and clouds
Rain? Or shine? I’m gonna need more coffee … I love that.

Today I love the summer rain, like this one we have today here in my home town with the warm south wind pushing and splattering droplets around. I love how fresh and warm it feels and only wish I could sit out on my porch and write in it. I love that my plan is to take a wee break in the middle of the morning and sit out  there without any tech or obligations for a few minutes and just let the gusts mist me with sweet cleansing, and wash the winter cares away off of me. I love how pleasant rain like this can be, how tempering it is to such a blustery day, how the warmth and moisture makes the day feel like an angry giant that is all talk and show but would be embarrassed if it ever hurt you. I love that it feels so much like summer and yet it isn’t yet the end of spring. I love how Summer seems to last the longest of all the seasons, borrowing time from her sisters, Autumn and Spring, and throwing lawn parties in their honor. I love that the bay at the cottage is already warm enough that I can stand in the water barefoot for a couple of minutes and it won’t be long before the tougher ones among us are swimming I’m sure.

Today I love laundry in rumbling machines in the next room. I love kitchens that are clean enough but show that they work hard too. I love life’s hectic bubbling simmer, always just about to boil over, always telling us we’re almost falling behind, always finding things for us to see, and do, and appreciate, and wonder at & about. I love how even when I’m feeling a little off my game life finds ways to help me keep up with things. I love that today I’m supposed to cut the lawn but I’ll get to either do that or work on indoor stuff instead, and either one will be okay with me.

Today I love that education means nothing unless your heart is in it, and the teachers who know this, regardless of their own education and abilities, are the teachers with passion that fire the students who go on to do great things. I love that students who learn early that there is no such thing as something that isn’t worth learning are the ones who never stop learning and never stop living life to the fullest. I love that I finally learned that.

Today I love drinking coffee while I write about love.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
