Today I Love Rainy Mornings

Waiting for the rain to stop …

Today I love rainy mornings that come with promises to clear up. I love that with any luck the weather will be clear enough that I can bail the dragon boat by lunch time and cut the lawn before dinner. I love days that work out well. I love that if the weather doesn’t cooperate I can always cut the lawn another day, and that would be okay with me too. I love the smell of newly cut lawns. I love the smell of hay being harvested even more. I love my memories of the barn above the stable and the smell of the hay and the grain and the straw all mingled together like some rich tea aroma. I love catching a whiff of the smells of things blooming, love driving with the windows open on country roads, love that there is no highway between our home and our cottage and that there are four or more ways to get there and they’re all scenic and pleasing in their own ways. I love that I am still able to spend so much of my life outside. I love that we went for another walk this morning. I love that we think we’re going to get up at six in the morning, but in reality we just listen to the craziness of the radio at six and eventually get up and get going.

Today I love that it is Tuesday but it’s the first day after a long weekend so it has to start like Monday and then become Tuesday as it rolls on. I love that tonight is dragon boating night again and I’m looking forward to going up the river to the old dam. I love the view of our city from the river, love how the river is like a hold on the soft greens of nature in the midst of urban gray hardness. I love chasing the invisible water sprites as they ripple the rivers surface in random patterns, teasing us with the possibility of their presence.

Today I love doughnuts with my coffee. I love that it is porridge making day and I get to choose the fruit I put into it. I love that I’ll be golfing soon in my usually atrocious way. I love any excuse to go outside almost any time of the day or any time of the year. I love that I’m making plans to put the dock in at the cottage and that might happen this weekend coming.

Today I love drinking coffee and eating doughnuts while I wait for the weather to clear up so we can do this whole Monday sort of feeling Tuesday thing.

Today I Love Rainy Mornings

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
