Today I Love This Blazing Sun

snow melting on the back lawn
The retreating drifts of mineral soup

Today I love this blazing sun that has raised it torch high in the sky and set alight the beginnings of the summer fire that warms us through half of our year. I love that although that fire will burn down and get a little cooler over the next few days, it is now kindled and ablaze and will grow as the sun rises farther north each day to add to the fuel that it will burn. I love the brilliant morning light that I woke up to today and the calm and peace of knowing that the road, for once, wasn’t waiting for me. I love that, although a mass of dirty dishes was waiting for me they are better than half way done. I love that breakfast was made for me, and served in the sunny warmth of the living room. I love that I work with words for a living and that I always give the best words to people I’m writing for, because great words can be used over and over so why would you want to withhold them, Am I right?

Today I love that good things can come in sixes as easily as threes, that unlike three, six can be divided by both three and two, that it is half a dozen, that it cuts such a robust and healthy figure when written, that it begins and ends and indeed is almost completely constructed with sibilants, and that is is almost never misheard. I love that life is a numbers game, and though those numbers can be twisted to dismiss or justify things that should not be, the truth of numbers is that when it comes to life, I am one, and you are one as well, and we are neither one of us more or less significant than the other. I love the number one, especially when it comes in groups of six. 😉

Today I love the shrinking drifts of snow that are seeping into the lawns and fields, marinating the soil in mineral broth, soaking the seeds to help them soften and germinate. I love the quiet of this house as the task of rejuvenation gets underway. I love that today is a slow day for a Monday, but that there are some good things that will still get done. I love Spring Mondays and their energizing ways of making it seem okay to relax for a little while.

Today I love drinking my sixth coffee of the day in the sunshine … I’d better get busy, I’m only on number three.

Today I Love This Blazing Sun

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
