Today I love proud trees who adorn themselves in brilliant crystal lace and wave to the cars as they go by, sometimes losing bits of their decoration but continuing to wave and show off their decorations. I love the way that nature’s most beautiful scenes are often come by only through the harshest of weather. I love storms, rain or snow or even wind, love the way they make the trees and the clouds and the light and dark play together in a wild game of “try to withstand the elements.” I love that weather is nature’s moods and seasons are nothing more than changing the type of weather to be expected. I love the dawn when I’m on the road, love how I can drive for miles and lose my mind in the rambling road’s turns and dips and rises, love how I suddenly realize how much the day has changed and how far I can see and how ineffectual the headlights have become. I love our car and the way it quietly gathers in the miles between where we are and where we need to be without so much as a grumble or a cough. I love that after driving over 600 kilometers in 36 hours I’m still ready to hit the road right now … well, maybe after I have a nap.
Today I love that I know people who, when things are difficult, keep looking forward to the goal line. I love that I’m pretty sure I’m one of those people so it makes sense that I love being near people like that. I love that I also know people who only need to have someone point to the end zone and they become positive when they might not have been before. I love people who have been moving forward slowly with the important goals they’ve set for their lives, and I love when those goals heave into view for them on their distant horizon.
Today I love leftovers for lunch. I love when I cook something I like to eat. I love cooking for six when there’s only two of us ’cause I know full well that there will be leftovers. I love that I have no willpower when it comes to snacks and I love that I’m sitting in my Wednesday office, which is a cafĂ© with great snacks. I love that there are snacks in my immediate future.
Today I love sipping coffee on the road while the prideful trees wave their glittering lace in the air and occasionally throwing it at me, trying to get my attention.
