Today I love walking in the mountains just beneath the clouds. I love that we walked the Caminito del Rey and it is breathtaking. I love that parts of that trail are boardwalks stuck on the sides of sheer mountain walls, and one feels very safe and very vulnerable at the same time. I love that the walk was five kilometers long, not too long, and not too short, perfect for a good outing what with the ups and downs and the amazing scenery. I love that the landscape here is so very different from home, and yet I cannot seem to make that apparent with my camera. I love that I take pictures and then look at them and realize there is no scale and so I have to remind myself that not everything is for sharing, sometimes some things are just gifts from the world to me. I love that I can share these gifts by telling you about them, even though I regret that I can’t share what I experienced. I love that this is my third or fourth day in Spain, I can’t really remember because I was up for 36 hours beginning Monday morning and then I slept for fourteen hours and I’m not sure whether to count that as one day or two. I love that we spent some time in Malaga touring around and I love that we got to see the Picasso Museum there and had a lovely walk about the town.
Today I love the wonders of traveling in a land I had no idea I’d ever get to see. I love the cheerful way that people greet people here … “Hola,” saying it in such a way as to make it sound open and inviting and like they are asking if the other one is well, if everything is good, if there is anything that can be done. I love how cheerful everyone is and how accommodating. I love being on vacation, and I love that the opportunity to vacation here was made available to me.
Today I love oranges that were on trees a day ago. I love walking along the beach, half in and half out of the Mediterranean, looking at shells and listening to sea birds along the Costa Del Sol. I love wandering the streets and alleys of a truly old town. I love the smells of many different foods coming from many different little shops and restaurants. I love that when I walk around in shorts and a T-shirt here, everyone in parkas and pants knows I’m a tourist.
Today I love wandering through this pretty little town in search of café solo in the sunny winter morning light before heading out to walk in the mountains.
