Today I Love This New Day

Coffee and work …

Today I love this new day, as important in its own right as any other day and the beginning of its own glorious wonders and incidents, events and activities, qualities and occurrences. I love that no day is without its benefits offered, even those days that bring detriment and damage to our lives, sometimes knocking the wind out of us and bringing us to our knees, because we survive them all until the last one and it has not yet arrived for me unless this day is it and if it is I don’t intend to waste my time remaining in lamenting anything. I love that the holiday season is mostly over but there are remnants of celebration that bring a smile to my face. I love that I will finally get to spend some time with my family today and we’ll be our usual, irreverent and crazy selves, making sure that we know that each one of us is there for the others even if we don’t connect as often as others might think we should.I love finding my way back into the heart of my family each time we renew our contact, I love that we can go for weeks and sometimes months without connecting and then just suddenly meet up all together for a game of golf or a potluck dinner or a motorcycle ride up the shore for a lunch. I love that we are casually spontaneous.

Today I love that last night I got to spare at the curling rink and that was fun. I love that I’m doing okay for someone who has curled for only one and a half seasons, and that my first fall so far has been my only serious one, though I’ve had at least one occasion when I had to catch myself to keep from checking out the ice close up. I love that winter is upon us and that there are small things to be thankful for about that. I love that the cold kills some of the more persistent viruses out there, like West Nile virus so we get a reprieve from its spread every winter. I love that I can’t help thinking of that as “fallowing” of our personal health, giving it a rest in order to build strength.

Today I love strawberry/blueberry oatmeal for breakfast. I love fresh made coffee at my Wednesday office and I love being back at my Wednesday office after having a couple of weeks off. I love home made Christmas treats in repacked cookie tins. I love making new friends and getting to experience pieces of their culture.

Today I love drinking coffee while working hard on the Wednesday schedule. Yay me at work!

Today I Love This New Day

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
