Today I Love My Youthful Mind

Good for you …

Today I love my youthful mind and the many ways that it has refused to grow up. I love that it often behaves like it is only twelve years old. I love that twelve is the perfect age, not too old to forgo thinking about fun kid stuff but not so young that it can’t appreciate the exciteent of those adult thoughts. I love that yesterday we found a really good Scrabble board at a thrift store for just $5 ($7CAN) and it’s the kind that rotates and has ridges to hold the tiles in place. I love that now we have one for the house and one for the chalet. I love calling the cottage “the chalet” ’cause it makes the place sound so pompous. I love that Scrabble fits right in with being twelve in my mind, because it’s a game, but I can make adult words that are a little risqué and everyone thinks I’m clever. 😉 I love that we play Scrabble with all our tiles exposed and it’s the least competitive game you could imagine. I love that we help each other, even when we’re playing online, by showing each other our letters and giving advice. I love that we’ve been known to suspend the “No proper nouns” rule for entire games and that there has even been talk of a game of just all proper nouns … not sure if that would work, but we may have to try it some time.

Today I love that, due to unforeseen circumstances, there will be a change in our day and we won’t all be at work. I love how things can just suddenly change and we can just roll with it. I love that there are new plans to choose from and we’re just having a great time pondering all the possibilities. I love that happy people have less trouble with troubling situations. I love that looking for the love in life makes for a happy life so I’m one of the happy people. I love that it really is that easy to be happier, just look for the love, and if you go to the trouble of writing it down it soon becomes a habit.

Today I love chocolate on sale. I love grocery shopping expeditions that started out as just a quick trip to pick up one thing … maybe two, and end up with stuff we didn’t know we needed until we saw it in the discount section. I love that discounts make everything a good idea, whether it’s healthy veggies and fruit or the now suddenly good for you because it’s cheaper than before chocolate.

Today I love drinking coffee and nibbling on discount chocolate.

Today I Love My Youthful Mind

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
