drifted snow around a small tree

Snow carving by Winter

Today I love my mind and the wonderful places that it goes to at times. I love that I can get lost looking at the patterns of colored projector lights on the ceiling. I love that we have an outdoor colored projector in the living room. I love how 60’s that looks and really is. I love how far my thoughts can go and how elaborate my plans can become just to figure out ways to surprise someone in a joyous way with funky locations for the projector light. I love that I have restrained myself admirably, ’cause often the “elaborate plans” involve rewiring and replacing switches, and receptacles and all manner of things like that. I love that I get as much out of dreaming these things up as I would out of doing them, but the dreaming is far less expensive. I love how many song ideas I’ve had lately even though I haven’t been writing them down and haven’t written a song in months. I love that a new song could happen any day, and possibly will. I love that I seem to write more when I’m less than happy, which might suggest that I’m too happy these days to have much to say. I love that that hasn’t stopped me from writing this blog.

Today I love the sculpted fields of white, the beautiful low relief carvings of hard and icy snow , the sweeping lines of drifts that Winter has built up around the car and the truck to mark their spots in the drive. I love the way the wind has been used to hollow out the snow around the tree by the front walk, like it’s being displayed by the season as an example of beauty. I love the swagged drapes of snow on fences and power lines, the tufted finials on posts, and the curls of waves on the edges of roofs and lawns. I love that snow drifts often look exactly like waves on water, and considering that snow is really just a frozen form of water, it’s fun to ponder the likelihood that the snow I see drifted and curled and hanging off the edge of the roof might not have been in that exact same position out on the bay last summer, only moving fast toward the shore.

Today I love music and curling and this wonderful Friday feeling of weekend. I love that I have a lot of stuff to do, and I love that I have lots of time to do it in.

Today I love coffee by the fireplace while the wind carves the front yard to match the rest of my city.
