Today I love 2018 and all the potential it brings for wonder and adventure, for love and laughter, for opportunities to help and be helped.
I love that I managed to stay up until midnight on December 31st; that there was a kiss at the stroke of twelve; and that night was quiet and calm.
I love that the snowblower worked without fail on the last day of the old year and I’m hoping its intentions are to continue with that behavior into the new year.
I love how beautifully calm the world appears from the chalet and how wonderful and clean and white everything looks under all this snow. I love that I am looking forward to so many things just now and I love that I have to tell myself to slow down and take it easy or I’ll waste too much of the year anticipating.
I love that I’m looking forward to more music, both hearing and participating in. I love that there will be curling. I love that there will be Chinese New Year celebrations. I love that there will be two weeks off at the end of January and that will be my first real vacation in years. I love looking forward to spring, and I love spending the winter calmly enjoying the anticipation.
Today I love the way the pans of ice pile up on the edge of the bay and look like stepping stones. I love the old words that I remember from my father who talked about ice along the shore of his home town in Newfoundland, slob ice, and pans, and the dangerous act of “copying,” which was to apparently run from pan to pan in the harbor, trying to make it safely from the shore out as far as you could go and back again.
I love that there is no way in hell I’ll be attempting that adventure. I do not love that many have died from that activity but I love that there is now widespread education about the dangers of it. I love driving through Winterscapes on sunny afternoons. I love that the last evening of 2017 was so clear and the moon rose just as the day was receding.
Today I love home made biscotti, but don’t tell anyone that ’cause I’ve made fun of the stuff for so long and I’d hate for the person who made it to find that out.
I love that we snowshoed yesterday with friends and that was a good workout for my calves I tell you. I love that I am right here in between adventures-done and adventures-yet-to-come and I’m thrilled with that.
Today I love drinking coffee at the chalet while I dream about the last moon of 2017 and the new opportunities of 2018.
