Today I Love These Rolling Days
Today I love these rolling days and how they seem to repeat indefinitely in a cyclical manner and yet progress purposely through the calendar. I love that it is Thursday once again and that seems too good to be true. I love the Thursdayness of this day and that it is a perfect fit for this time of the week. I love that although Thursdays happen only once every seven days they seem to always be coming up or here or just over. I love that Thursdays are so wonderfully versatile, being a whole 24 hours in which one can get caught up on the weeks work, get some sleep, make plans and prepare for the coming weekend and just generally have a good time in the in between moments of all of that. I love when Thursdays are just suddenly here, like they playfully snuck up on us and pounced. I love that, like the irregular past participle, “snuck” that makes speaking the English language that little bit easier, Thursdays seem to have come from nowhere, just to give us something that works better than all the other days could ever possibly work at holding a place between Wednesday and Friday.
Today I love the way the predawn morning sky was such a perfect canvas for the moon and the morning star to hang on. I love how beautiful real life is, how even though photographs can be stunning, anyone who takes pictures will tell you that the photo never shows all the beauty that the eye sees, and yet, with judicious framing and adequate zoom and shutter speed and film sensitivity photographs can sometimes be made to highlight beauty that we would otherwise have missed, though that usually only happens by accident with my pictures. I love the brilliant glow of the leading edge of daylight on the eastern horizon in the moments before the sun comes up.
Today I love that tonight is the second annual traditional festive holiday sushi with friends gathering that has been named “Merry Fishmas.” I love that we’re going to make it to this because we seem to have missed “ThankSushi.” I love how enjoyable new things can be and that the menu for sushi and sashimi is far from fully explored by me. I love that my tolerance of all things tasty and hot has grown appreciably and although there are some kinds of heat that still take my breath and my voice away completely, there are others where I’m all, “Just pile that right here, please!” while tapping my plate.
Today I love drinking coffee by the predawn light of the part moon.
