Today I love that my name is Kelly and even though I’m a Canadian, I’m genetically more Irish than St. Patrick was. I love that St. Patrick was an immigrant to Ireland who found his niche and settled in to an accepting and welcoming land where he made a life for himself in his chosen vocation of trying to eradicate others because of their religion. I love that there are intolerant people in this world who will celebrate St. Patrick’s day because they know as little about him as they do about the people they are intolerant of. I love that my humor is very Celtic in nature. I love that I love corned beef and cabbage even though that’s as Irish as leis and kangaroos. I love that I don’t drink anymore so I don’t have to pretend that I like someone tinting my beer green, as if I would ever consider that a good thing. I love how the people who use St. Patrick’s day as an excuse to drink don’t even realize that they are stereotyping an entire segment of the world’s population, something that is called bigotry in other manifestations. I love that I can celebrate Ireland any day I choose by just being myself because I’m almost half Irish according to my DNA analysis. Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
Today I love that tonight there is one more game of curling before the season ends. I love my Friday night routine of dashing from the open mic to the rink so much that I am going to miss it greatly, but that’s just how I know I love curling. I love that this last draw had me playing on a team of good friends and it was the best draw yet, because I just enjoyed their company and we didn’t care about winning, just playing. I love that tonight we’re going to try to win a second game, because … why not? I love that I get to warm up for curling by singing and playing guitar, though I don’t think it’s helped my game any.
Today I love robins finally singing in the back yard after being silent all winter. I love all the birds that are dashing busily by my window. I love that the high temperatures over the next two weeks are almost all forecast to be above freezing. I love that two of the three faucets and one of the drains got installed yesterday, and I love that the third faucet has been returned and that I’m waiting for a functioning one and that the replacement had to be special ordered because I have no idea why. I love that I still got everything done that I could of the stuff that I planned to get done.
Today I love coffee by the window where all the birds all seem to be passing by.
