sun, sky, tree

The scattered light of the searing sun

Today I love mail order packages and the way they just magically arrive. I love the seemingly ethereal and virtual way we order things online and how one day they are just a click on a screen and another day they are suddenly in your mailbox. I love that since the big box stores shut down so many of my favorite shops I can still buy what I want or need without going into loud and crowded places and being restricted to the few examples that the “store” allows me to choose from. I love that there are so many options for ordering anymore and I am no longer restricted to shopping in stores where I live but I can if I want to. I love that it reminds me of when I lived in a rural area as a child and I would send away my films by mail and then wait for the pictures to come back the same way. I love the quiet anticipation that results from suddenly remembering something is on its way in the mail. I love mail order even more since it became e-mail order and even just e-order. I love that I can even shop at a local store and buy things and then just drive over and pick them up and they’re already gathered up for me and even paid for by me from my recliner.

Today I love the searing sun burning through the haze of a cold March morning sky. I love the way the light scatters through the thin cloud and softens the shadows by slipping in obliquely behind the things that make those shadows. I love that spring is only six days away. I love that the daily highs are supposed to be just slightly above freezing in about the same amount of time. I love that spring snow is still a possibility. I love the fickle way the weather wanders and I love knowing that it doesn’t matter because warmer weather is coming and will be here soon.

Today I love home made baklava. I love music practice and open mics. I love that the piano is suddenly letting me consider collaborative music creation with it. I love that I am feeling pretty good after yesterday’s extreme physical workout on the track and in the pool and later at the pool table. I love that I didn’t clean up my kitchen this weekend, but didn’t let it get too messy either, I cleaned it just enough to stay on top without looking like it was cared for by a clean freak. I love that new pens are on their way by mail order.

Today I love coffee in the scattered light of the searing sun of a cold but warming march morning.
