Today I Love Workday Breakfast

breakfast nook
The well lit nook … and a bit of the mess

Today I love workday breakfast on Tuesday morning with all the good stuff like bacon and eggs and bacon fried buttered toast and … well, that was all really, but man it was good. I love that we sat down and ate breakfast without thinking to turn on the light in the nook and neither one of us noticed that we’d forgotten because … longer days! I love that after breakfast the day got dull and grey again but it was so beautiful before, like it was a gift, “Here, the day’s supposed to be pretty dark, but we pulled some strings and got you a good seat by the stage near the orchestra to see this morning’s dawn.” I love that my life is like a series of shows and while each day looks very similar to the disinterested eye, each one has its own plot and different subplots and changing characters and even the annoying ones who feel they need to have a say in other peoples lives just come and go. I love people who believe they need to tell others what they think of their life decisions, they think they’re teaching, but they’re really just getting ready to learn.

Today I love making plans to visit the big smoke of the city from whence I came originally. I’m tagging along on a conference trip and I’ll have nothing to do but explore and appreciate and learn. I love that I never refer to the place where I was born as my home town and yet I am not ashamed or embarrassed by it. I just have no memory of it so it has never felt like home, yet I love that it is more important to me than other places I have no memory of. I love the idea that I will be exploring in a place I’ve been before but am still a stranger in.

Today I love the cardinals whistling and clucking outside. I love that I think I might have heard a robin out there. I love that I have a mess of a kitchen to clean because it tells the story of a weekend of enjoyment and adventure that left no time for dishes or floors or laundry and things of that nature. I love that cleaning up after a good time tells the story of that time, all you have to do is listen to every messy corner’s tale.

Today I love coffee as a warm-up for cleaning up. Mmmmm, coffee.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
