Today I Love The Sun Piercing The Clouds

river flowing into bay
Big water and muddy rivers

Today I love the sun piercing through the clouds and casting moody light over the melting landscape. I love the smell of earth and water when it is mild and thawing everywhere. I love that I am looking around for flowers to be blooming even though they are weeks off and even though winter is far from over and will probably return with colder temperatures at least if not plenty more snow. I love that the snow people we made are all gone, the cycle of life dictates that they must leave eventually but opportunities will arise again to make more of them. I love that there is a large expanse of lawn in the front yard and in the back yard that has been exposed and the smell of lawn makes me want to get out the lawn mower and tune it up. I love thinking about spring and summer, but I also still love winter. I love that there is still curling left in the season and I’m looking forward to that tomorrow night.

Today I love the big water of the bay that goes on forever, and reaches out of sight. I love the way the muddy rivers colour the shoreline but can’t discolor the bay itself for any great distance. I love the sight of people fishing from the shore and in the water, I love the beautiful blue of our bay and the way it curves and seems to fill the sky with its color. I love that there are places in my home area where I can stand with my back to lit ski hills so tall and high they could be sheer walls, and face the open water so vast that it could be ocean. I love how very, very big my little piece of this world seems to be when I’m standing in just the right place.

Today I love new music toys. I love that the garage will be even fuller this afternoon. I love that I have been working on organizing it so that there is more space and now, seemingly without a care, I am going to fill it back up somewhat. I love that I still intend to clear all the stuff out of it. I love Burnt Almond chocolate bars. I love picnics at the office. I love brightly colored, reusable, plastic cutlery. I love grapefruit and grapefruit flavored cough drops.

Today I love coffee on by the big water in the warm sunshine.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
