Today I Love All The Weather

Today I love all the weather and driving through it on a road trip. I love that I saw brilliant sun and heavy clouds, clear skies and and then snow flurries, mild temperatures and then freezing ones. I love that I saw both sides of my beloved peninsula today, the beautifully brooding Georgian Bay and the silvery sulking Lake Huron. I love that Huron’s shores were piled high with ice off in the distance and the pounding waves were throwing themselves against that ice and then spraying water high in the air. I loved that the shores of the bay were open and clear without ice and that the water looked inviting though I know it would have been fatally cold. I love my home on this pencil of land in the middle of all this water and I love the sights and the sounds. I love the water lapping on the shore and the smell of the air that blows in off the water coming miles and miles from other shores to breeze by me in an instant and tell me as best it can of the places it has been with just a wisp of scent and then … gone again on it’s next journey.

Today I love Syrian food from the Farmers’ Market, and all the other things we buy there as well, bread and eggs and breakfast and all. I love that I can blow into the market, dash around and get everything I need and be heading out the door thinking I haven’t seen a soul that I know and then suddenly everyone I run into is someone I’m acquainted with. I love how everyone in this town knows someone who knows someone who knows me, if they don’t know me themselves. I love that if I talk to a stranger there is better than a fifty fifty chance that they know someone who knows me.

Today I love jam on toast. I love good books and crocheted throws. I love movies that make me laugh because, “Why do we even have that lever?” I love curling when we win but I love curling just as much when we lose because I love curling. I love how good food tastes when I am really hungry and how much better it tastes when I didn’t realize that I was really hungry.

Today I love coffee in my travel mug because … road trip!

Today I Love All The Weather

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
