Today I Love The Rising Sun

White henna cloud skinned sky

Today I love the rising sun as it finds its way up through a new day in a new time scheme. I love that the sun felt so warm and healing coming in through the eastern window that I waited until it was above the top of the window rather than pull the blind down to be able to see to write. I love that the sky has a thin skin of beautiful cloud art stretched across its face that looks like white henna. I love sunlight reflecting off of windows into dark corners. I love daytime. I love Daylight Savings Time because of the extra hour of light during the summertime, and I love people who grumble that Daylight Savings Time costs them an hour of daylight in the winter months because they don’t understand that the winter daylight hours are exactly what they would be without Daylight Savings Time. People are so fun.

Today I love that my back might be a little better, but it’s hard to tell through all the pain so I’m saying it is and enjoying that it is while I can. I love that I can sit still and be pain free and forget for a few moments that I’ve hurt myself.  I love that I can find things to love even when I’m tethered to the couch by potential pain. I love that I just caused myself some pain by laughing at the thought that this is what a dog with an invisible fence collar might feel like, unable to move or bark because the collar might jolt him. I love laughing at myself, but I feel sorry for the dogs.

Today I love bacon and eggs for breakfast because bacon. I love when people say, “because, bacon.” like it’s the answer to some deep and profound problem that requires a solution that is just that far beyond known logic. I love pretending that I don’t like kale and quinoa and hummus. Well, okay, I’m not pretending when it comes to hummus, I’ll let you know when I can’t chew anymore and need my food puréed. Ha. I love making jokes about what foods I like. I love orange Popsicles. I love apple cider, and I love that I got to see an old cider press in action yesterday.

Today I love morning coffee under the thin, white, henna skin of cloud art painted on the sky.

Today I Love The Rising Sun

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
