Today I love morning hurry and scurry as I get myself ready to head out the door for work. I love Tuesdays and their “let’s get it done” attitude that they seem to have cultivated from Monday’s overly ambitious let downs of the old to-do list. I love that Tuesday is often like that favorite uncle that comes to visit every now and then and just says things like, “Let’s fix your shed.” and then seems to effortlessly go ahead and do that in a half hour when you were sure it was time to tear the shed down. I love uncle Tuesday, always seeming to be stormy but really pleasant when you get past his rough and blustery facade. Uncle Tuesday is all dark grey clouds with a pink sunrise edge where the inner light escapes from inside. He’s just a big ol’ pussy-cat that gets things done before others can complain about how much work it will take.
Today I love that I am off to work and though it’s a light day, I’m happy to be gainfully employed even for a few hours. I love that I am pretty sure I can get another season out of my old truck and my old snow-blower, and that I’m secretly wishing for snow to blow as well as to cover the ground to keep pipes and things in this town from freezing up again. I love that Halloween was such a hoot last night and how it is the one thing that seems to be more about the getting ready than it is about the actual thing, because it just happens and then it’s suddenly just over and done and everyone is looking on to other things. I love that it’s all about the end of the year holidays that all fall together. I love this time of year.
Today I love textured skies, I love a good fire in a fireplace, even if it’s gas. I love walking in damp autumn air. I love how brilliant ripe apples look when hanging on leafless black trees against a grey sky. I love leftover Halloween candy and will be on the look out for it. I love cutting the lawn for the last time of the season. I love wet pavement that looks rich and black when it’s covered in bright leaves blown from everywhere to decorate the road.
Today I love coffee with good old uncle Tuesday, watching the edge of the day slip in under the crack in the clouds at the horizon.
