Today I love the random chaos of my life, the welcoming clutter of my office, the certain and comforting knowledge that any paper work I might be looking for is on my kitchen table in a pile with other papers, and the absolute joy of knowing that somewhere in my house there are four or five guitars, each one waiting for me to find it and play it in passing. I love that I never have to make plans to do anything for enjoyment, I only need to look around to find some enjoyable pastime’s accoutrements right there and that’s how I’ll spend my time for a bit when it’s time to relax.
Today I love the view of the world through the icy bars of my wintertime home security system. I love that there are seven weeks and four days until spring’s official start, just enough time to enjoy what’s left of winter and contemplate the liberation from the chilly grip of having our northern half of this apple of a planet tilted away from the sun. I love that people living in the southern hemisphere will have to read this in six months to experience what I’m on about. I love that, even though we are one world, and we all experience so many of the same things, we get to have different experiences going on at the same time.
Today I love that it is Friday and that means music at the open mic and the beginning of the weekend and all that other stuff I always love about Fridays. But this Friday I also love that some people will be stepping forward, striking out, making great and significant changes. While I sit comfortably behind these bars of ice, others will be shaking off the shattered shackles of the status quo and striding forward into new and liberating lives because they have found out that there is no more safety in standing still than there is in moving forward. In both cases you risk not going in the right direction, the only difference is that you can’t go the wrong direction if you are standing still, but you might already be in the wrong place. I love people who make progress, it’s so much better than making excuses.
Today I love a cup of coffee while looking out of my cage of ice. I love coffee with my morning banana bread. I love that the heal of the loaf of banana bread is the treat you get to compensate for the loaf being all gone. I love that I actually enjoy baking but I still grumble when the banana bread is all gone. And I love that sipping coffee while baking is pretty damned good too.
