Today I Love August 23rd, 2015

Water at dusk
Water at dusk

Today I love that last night I got to listen to Steve Poltz tell the story of how he and Jewel came to write the song “You Were Meant For Me” and it was very entertaining. I love that that is exactly the kind of thing that happens at Summerfolk. I love that I got to play a couple of songs yesterday afternoon with my music partner Rebecca.  And I love that I got to be a part of this, that I got to laugh and sing and play and work among the great people that pull this great show off every year.

Today I love the memory of a perfect night in an outdoor amphitheatre. The sun setting in the trees of the western horizon and lighting the water to the east was the perfect setting for this show. I love how the water and the air and the stone and earth and trees all seem to be a little bit more alive when every part of the festival is happening all at once.

Today I love that people seem to find the friends they need. I love that my friends seem to have the right people in their lives. It makes me think that, either this friendship thing is really easy, or the right person for the job shows up just when they are needed. I love that all my friends are the right people for the job, and I hope I’m the right person for the job too.

Today I love coffee. It takes the edge off of even the roughest days and makes things seem like they fit together. Coffee with friends is a treat and a very good practice. I love when I see friends meeting for coffee, you can tell they value their friendship when they are willing to dedicate coffee time to it. I love that.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
