The 4-Step Path to Success

Striving for success adds meaning to our life, coloring it with richness, depth, and purpose.

Working hard to accomplish our dreams makes us feel valuable and fills us with wholehearted satisfaction.

Although success can be different for each person, its vibrant effect is the same when we fight to achieve something we find meaningful and worthwhile.

So how can we accomplish success? Here’s a 4-step path to guide your way.

1. Envision & Set Goals

Success starts with a dream. You need to think big to act big.

Don’t be afraid of how “crazy” your dreams may seem. In the words of Steve Jobs, “the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

So let your imagination fly.

Dare to think outside the box, or even better, get rid of your self-limiting box.

Envision freely what you want to accomplish and let those aspirations soar.

Then bring them down to earth. Not by thinking it’s impossible (almost nothing ever is), but by transforming your vision into specific goals and actions.

Be clear on the “why” and the “what”. Then figure out the “how”, at least enough to get you started. You’ll figure out the rest along the way.

2. Take “All In” Action

Intention needs to be accompanied by action for it to be effective. Even the most brilliant mind can be wasted on hesitation.

As filled of passion as inspiration is, it becomes useless when we fail to put it into practice.

Vision without action is merely a dream.

So execute. You don’t need to take huge steps to move forward. Success is built through small but firm steps. One at a time.

Whatever your goal is, make each step worthy of your potential and give it your “all in”.

As Thomas Edison once said, “genius is one percent inspiration, ninety nine percent perspiration.”

Effort is key to success. You need to be willing to do the work it takes to make your dreams happen.

3. Take Risks

If you wait until you have all the answers, you’ll never accomplish anything. Worst-case scenarios can help you prepare and plan to the best of your knowledge. But the truth is, you can’t plan for everything.

The sooner you accept success requires taking risks, the sooner you’ll be on your way to accomplish it.

So don’t wait to be ready to start or else you never will.

Take a leap of faith and embrace the mystery of uncertainty.

It may slap you in the face or may as well just astound you. There is no way for you to know. But regardless of the outcome, the process itself will change you. That’s the beauty of it.

Be smart about the risks you take and look before you leap.  But once you jump into the unknown, let go of the need to control and trust that you’ll somehow land on your feet.

4. Don’t Give Up

As with all things that matter, success won’t come easy.

You will stumble and fall more than once.  And it will be up to you to learn from those mistakes or let yourself be defeated by them.

Failure will make you or break you. Your tenacity and self-determination will ultimately make the difference.

The road to success will not be a straight line. It will be full of curves and detours. Results will not always come as you expect and you’ll be forced to face setbacks and challenges that will bring self-doubt. A lot of it.

But you have to persist. It doesn’t matter if you take two steps forward and one step back. As long as you keep moving.

Remember, “he who perseveres, conquers”.  So never give up.

The world belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams, only if they are brave enough to fight for them.
