How to Love Yourself

Grateful for Dirty Laundry

Rarely is someone happy about doing the dishes, having to work late or doing the laundry, but we can take a moment to consider the blessing in these tasks and feel grateful. Having a grateful attitude is more positive for our mental, spiritual and overall health.

Expanding Your Spiritual Consciousness

Expanding your spiritual consciousness describes a type of spiritual awareness. An increasing awakening  to that divine connection within us, our spiritual selves. It impacts how we perceive the world around us.

If we look at the world's major religions, we see a commonality that they are meant to help us grow higher in our awareness , knowledge and insight into God , or for some the spiritual energy around them. Arguably, the two are the same. Religious rituals, take prayer for example, encourage us to tap into that divine connection which is a light in our hearts illuminating more depth into our subconscious influences.

Can the Winter Season Make You Sad

Jasmine was normally happy and full of smiles, but every winter she felt down and she couldn't explain why. She did not want to wake up in the morning, she wanted to overeat and she felt sad yet she didn't know what to do about it. She didn't change her routines or experience any traumas during winter. She even felt physically weaker! Jasmine's friends told her to snap out of it and thought she was being overly dramatic.

Ever heard of the winter blues? This is more than a clever expression. Jasmine had a legitimate concern that people simply did not understand. Seasonal pattern specifier (previously called seasonal affective disorder) describes a specific type of depression, it typically begins near the beginning of winter and carries on until spring.

Our brain is wired to favor routines over change, even if that change is healthier. Lets look at some practical skills to achieve your goals!

Spirituality and Mindfulness in Mental Health

Spirituality advocates for mindfulness regardless of whichever faith path or belief system one has.  We can see spirituality integrated into many mindfulness practices like holotropic breathing, prayer or yoga. Yoga, for example, can be spiritual or not, but it does advocate for mindfulness and focus.

Mindfulness and increased focus have been shown as an important psychological benefit of many spiritual and holistic practices.  Mindfulness is more than just a hot keyword, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is a very real focus on psychology. Research supports that MBCT is a beneficial therapy for depression and anxiety. While MBCT may not specifically be spiritual in nature, the mindfulness associated with it is often a link to our spirituality.
