Once again a very interesting article on a great topic! I find that I don’t pay as much attention to my spiritual needs as I used to and I miss that so I plan on being more intentional with that.
The church I am a member of (but haven’t attended in years) regularly advocated prayer, and at times, fasting. Reading the Bible is another piece I wish to do better with. And, as you mentioned in a prior article, music can be soothing, healing, and a great way to worship.
Several years ago I tried something for the first time with a friend. We joined a drumming circle. It was not at all church related and it was a very small group which disbanded quicker than we would have liked . I was mildly anxious about going and I said to my friend “I don’t know how to play the drums! I will probably look silly and sound even worse!” We both had some hesitation but I was surprised to find that it really was not only fun but it was expressive and after a while, I was able to shut out much of the outside distractions and just be! It really was a wonderful experience!

o Some Churches advocate for abstaining from a favorite food or activity instead of full out fasting. This idea of giving up something for the sake of one’s faith. I knew of one woman that would give up peanut butter, I happen to love peanut butter so that memory stuck with me.
I have never done a drum circle, but I have heard lots about them. Repetitive simple beats like that can get someone into a trance like state, they forget everything else around them and just let it flow and often let their emotions go freely. Painting and other artwork can work the same, just depends on the person.
I DEFINITELY agree with shutting off the phone/electronics for awhile and stepping away. We all need that disconnect in order to reconnect.
I will be putting up a lengthier blog this week on anxiety, should be up by Wednesday.

Let me know if you ever have any topics you want me to look into , bring your friends to!

      Thanks!

I believe that mental health and spiritual health are both entwined with each other. Native Americans, in my opinion, do have some of the most beautiful ways of healing spiritually.
