“A person such as Whoopi Goldberg who has tried three times, though, may have a particularly good sense of whether marriage itself is right for her. She thinks it is not. She’s the round peg; marriage is the square hole. She waves off Ana Marie Cox’s suggestion that she has a particularly high bar, instead explaining that she’s just not that interested.” Well written, Bella DePaulo. This post if a ‘gland slam’ one. Just sharing: I read the following this past week in this wonderful book, while in the Ouachita National Forest: “Sue Smith Moak, lives on her rural Texas property, has found that being close to nature can be healing as well. (Rick, her husband died.) Sue questioned whether she should have moved to their little cabin without him and spent the last years of his life largely living apart. Sue retired before Rick, and went ahead and moved to their rural property while he stayed in Houston for work. She now lives alone on the property and is now glad she went on to live in the natural surroundings part-time long ago. Ariel McGothin, who is single, lives in her off-grid cabin in the mountains near Jackson, Wyoming, says she isn’t interested in environmentalist, but by living in a tiny house, it simply comes with the lifestyle. I am more into independence, which being off-grid give me, she says. (page 112- 113)
Chapter – An Update on Our Living Large Families – Sue Smith Moak has always been a tough country-type woman, but she has had to learn to do a lot of things around the property that Rick would have done, such as handle a chain saw, mow the lawn, and manage an assortment of other chores……………..Also single, Mary Dunning is still living in her little home in Missouri and running her soap business; Ariel McGlothin, who is single, and is enjoying her garden and spending her time creating great recipes; Jane Mosher is still Living Large in Canada, some days still not believing how much she loves her little home.
