I checked out the author on LinkedIn and Wikipedia. She specializes in family and parenting issues and has been married for 25 years. She won an award from a family organization for her writing. So that’s where the bias comes from. As we know, the only families that get acknowledged in the mainstream press are the “man + wife + 2 kids = normal” kind of families. She’s just promoting herself and her lifestyle with this piece. It isn’t a deep dive into reality.

Very interesting, Simone! Thanks for looking into her background and sharing that.

Just checked out the organization that gave the award and the award-winning article. It’s a 2010 article that says that marriage has become an institution for elites, based on the Pew data that first revealed this trend. Quotes Cherlin and Coontz. The article is somewhat even-handed and sober about the broad appeal of marriage. So that’s interesting. It still bashes single parents, though.
