Understanding Covert vs Overt Incest

“Covert incest occurs when a child becomes the object of a parent’s affection, love, passion, and preoccupation. … The boundary between caring love and incestuous love is crossed when the relationship with the child exists to meet the needs of the parent rather than those of the child.

You are making a serious misjudgment in regards to a portion of your article. You state that incest is hands on sexual abuse of a child perpetrated by a family member or some other primary caretaker. It may be incestuous but that is Child Abuse not just Incest. Incest is sexual relationships with closely related family members regardless of age. A 50 year old man having sex with his 23 year old daughter, or 2 twenty something siblings having sex is incest but not child abuse. A primary caregiver aka a Nanny, or other unrelated caregiver is not incest, but if a minor is involved it is child abuse. In fact the phenomenon of Genetic sexual attraction which is estimated to affect almost 50% of relatives not raised together is almost always consenting adults. Your portrayal of all incest as being child abuse is disingenuous and disrespectful of consenting adults that find themselves attracted to other family members.
I myself was a victim of molestation, but never of incest. Incest may not be socially acceptable but it is widely practiced in secret. Sometimes it involves molesting kids, but not always. often times it is between consenting adults, or even consenting underage siblings and relatives, and most of those are considered to be highly erotic and satisfying amongst those involved.

Child abuse and incest, while often seen together are not the same thing. Child abuse it rightfully illegal to protect children. Incest among consenting adults should not be illegal, simply because it is consensual, they are of legal age and frankly who sleeps with who is no one else’s business.

Consensual incest is still something to be ultimately avoided. Not having a relationship while younger doesn’t justify incest when one is old enough to consent, does it?
