    I would be cautious before I called something like songwriting or golf a substitute addiction. The neurobiology and biological implications in the brain of hobbies like cooking, skiing, mah-jonngg, songwriting, and the like are very different from dopamine factories like sex, cocaine, alcohol, and the true process addictions like gambling. Probably better to talk about the choices of activities people choose to fill their time. If it is something like compulsive songwriting, this could well be a sign of OCD, which could also explain the previous obsession with sex (and which is a different creature from addiction.)
