Hello is toxic shame an addiction? That you can be an addict of toxic shame?

Hi Sarah, intriguing question! We can indeed become ‘addicted’ (‘attached’) to negative emotional states which we then unconsciously seek to re-create; toxic shame is unconscious to begin with; it is possible we might find we ourselves in situation after situation in which we are experiencing toxic shame – but likely we would not realize it, given that it exists beneath conscious awareness (unlike ‘ordinary’ shame). Great question, one which I will continue to contemplate!
